A challenging but very rewarding trip.
Lots of water in the river when I arrived Sunday but thankfully it had dropped enough by Monday for me to get in my favourite swim and I had a pretty good day with 7 Barbel to 9-10 and 2 Chub to 5-2.
Tuesday I continued in the same swim but rain in Wales Monday and overnight meant the river was rising all day and I got forced out around 6pm but not before I'd had 3 Barbel to 10-0 and 6 Chub to 5-0.
Wednesday the river had been over 10ft up overnight but was now dropping as a consequence I went on beat 1 in a biting cold wind but despite trying several swims I never had a touch.
Thursday I could get back in my favourite swim on beat 3 and managed 2 Barbel and around 10 Chub (lost count), it was quite chilly and getting colder. At one point I had 8lb of Chub in the landing net, unfortunately it was two fish as both rods hooked fish at the same time.
Friday the river was as low as it had been all week but still up 2-3ft and the weather was colder still, despite the sun, but the Barbel still fed intermittently and I finished up with 4 Barbel and 4 Chub, best Barbel was 8-11.
All in all an excellent weeks fishing in challenging conditions.
